When the Taal unleashed its fury last year, places in nearby Southern Luzon were devastated. Volcanic ash as thick as six inches covered a couple of golf courses and the race for a massive clean up was inevitable.
One of them was Tagaytay Midlands. It was shutdown temporarily then a maintenance team was straight-away dispatched, assessed the situation and work began instantaneously.
Skid loaders and mini dump trucks were rented to help clear the ash. But critical in the swift clean up was the support of the Board of Directors, management and, of course, the members.
As support, a total of 200 caddies were hired immediately to help clean up the course. A caddy fund was setup, spearheaded by the tournament committee, that helped them recoup some of the lost income.
Now, the Midlands golf course is back on its feet and the club is slowly getting into the groove in operations likewise at the Highlands. After this experience, it is more than ready if it happens again.
